Janice Danforth, Chapter Chair of Mom’s for Liberty – Tulsa County, is our speaker this month. Public school libraries across our State are providing school children access to books that many parents and concerned citizens believe are inappropriate due to explicit sexual content.
Janice will bring to our attention the top 10 most frequently challenged books currently found in Oklahoma public schools. She will also share specific content from a few books that are on the shelves of libraries right here in Tulsa County.
Additionally, Janice will inform us about the process allowing these books into schools and the pushback from schools regarding removal of the books. Despite the sexually explicit nature of these books – and the fact the schools will not even allow the objectionable content to be mentioned at board meetings – librarians, teachers, administrators, and school board members are defending the selection of these books and insisting they be available to students.
Whether we are parents, grandparents, or concerned citizens, we will learn what we can do to fight this battle and protect the children.
Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government. It is a nationwide organization with 174 chapters in 33 states since launching in January 2021 and continues to grow with leaps and bounds.
Moms for Liberty - Tulsa County started in the fall of 2021.
Janice Danforth, the Chapter Chair, was frustrated with how issues were being handled in her son's school, so she reasoned there had to be other parents out there feeling the same way. Having been a supporter of the national group of Moms for Liberty, she decided to start a chapter in Tulsa. In just a few short months the Tulsa chapter became a resource for many parents across Tulsa County, as well as others in surrounding counties.
