As you are reading this, our Oklahoma House of Representatives are considering their vote on the BIGGEST tax increase in Oklahoma history. Not anything to be proud of for sure. We need you to contact your state representative and others and tell them No More Taxes! We demand performance audits and reform before coming after another penny of ours.
On Monday, the senate (unconstitutionally) passed HB1035X showing the House that they could deliver a tax bill to the governor's desk if that bill or a similar bill were to make it out of the House. The House accepted the challenge and used the same language as HB1035X but placed it in another bill (HB1054X), I guess thinking we wouldn't notice. You can gussy a pig up and put lipstick on it, but in the end, it's still a pig.
The NEW House bill passed out of the Budget Committee yesterday afternoon and will be heard on the floor Wednesday afternoon. Some of our strong, conservative representatives are being bullied with "hints" of receiving primary opponents if they DO NOT support and vote FOR this bill. The Republican Party Platform states "Revenues collected at all levels of government should be used only for well-defined, legitimate government functions, and should be carried out efficiently so that tax rates may be kept as low as possible." A Republican voting for higher taxes should be concerned about primary opponents - they will have a voting record on which they will have to defend.
What's baffling to me is that Speaker McCall stated that there were enough funds to cover 70% of the budget hole and other monies could be moved around and yet they are moving forward with this tax increase. Oklahoma State Treasurer, Ken Miller has reported stronger revenues than expected for many months now. And, what about the Amazon sales tax we have been collecting since March?
There is NO crisis! Terrorizing the elderly by threatening Grandma in the nursing home with eviction is reprehensible. We send our lawmakers to Oklahoma City to make the tough and necessary decisions NOT to take the easy way out at the expense of those that can least afford it.
